There is an intrinsic strength in the Yolngu of North East Arnhem Land, and they are particularly strong in culture, ceremony and language. Marngarr ’s aim has been to give more voice to the already strong traditional owners of this region, help them use the natural resources of the land and sea, and to build a strong and independent indigenous society away from the negative effects of welfare and substance abuse.

We aim to maximise the opportunities for training and employment by developing a safe community, providing better housing, and building sustainable indigenous industries.

Despite Marngarr’s many achievements so far, there is still a great deal of work to be done, and we see that our work will only grow into the future as we expand housing, upgrade community facilities, and develop larger economies of scale in our emerging industries. There will be a need to provide stronger infrastructure to support the growth into these new areas and drive the advancing levels of indigenous training and employment.
